Idea Pattarai by MudhalVC at SSN iFound: A Masterclass in Clarity and Challenging Assumptions

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Last month, we finally hosted the much-awaited Idea Pattarai by MudhalVC at SSN iFound, led by none other than Suresh Sambandam. It was a long-pending session—and unquestionably worth the wait.

Having interacted with Suresh on multiple occasions, one quality that consistently stands out is his straightforward and clear-cut approach. Conversations with him are sharp and decisive. He does not hedge. He answers with a clear yes or no. And in the startup world, where ambiguity often clouds decision-making, this clarity is invaluable.

In my view, among his many strengths as an entrepreneur and ecosystem leader, this clarity is one of the core reasons behind his success.

A Session Rooted in Clarity and Challenge

The session reflected exactly that mindset. Startup founders came in with questions across idea validation, business models, market readiness, and scale. What they received in return was crisp, actionable feedback, often accompanied by probing questions that challenged their assumptions.

Suresh never hesitated to push founders to think deeper and question what they believed to be “obvious.” This resonated strongly with one of the core principles we consistently advocate at SSN iFound—breaking assumption bias.

Having a mentor like Suresh in the room made this far more effective. His presence naturally infused that discipline of questioning into the founders’ thinking, without the need for elaborate frameworks or theory.

The Power of Honest, Unvarnished Feedback

While the session covered many early-stage startup essentials, what truly made it impactful was not the breadth of topics, but the way founders were pushed to examine their own assumptions.

The one-on-one reviews with startup teams became a masterclass in real-world venture building. Feedback from someone who has built companies, invested capital, and engaged deeply with the ecosystem carries a different weight. It may land sharply at times, but it always carries value.

Even when the feedback ran counter to what founders believed, it was easier for them to accept and act on it—because it came from a place of experience and conviction.

As someone who works closely with startup teams, I deeply appreciate founders who take such honest feedback in stride. While I am sometimes advised to soften my own feedback, sessions like this reaffirm a belief I hold strongly: direct, honest input saves founders immense time, energy, and resources—provided they have the courage to face it.

Gratitude and What Lies Ahead

A big thank you to Suresh Sambandam for an energizing and deeply impactful session. Gratitude as well to Viji (Vijaya Lakshmi S) for seamless coordination, and Arun from MudhalVC for sharing insights on helping startups move to the next stage of growth.

This session marks just the beginning of what I believe will be many more meaningful collaborations.

With initiatives like these driven by Suresh, his larger vision of Dream Tamilnadu—Tamil Nadu becoming a one trillion-dollar economy—feels not just aspirational, but achievable.

Onwards and upwards.
